“Angel and the Badman” (1947)

Friday, April 1, 2022, 7:00 PM, at Springfield Friends Meeting, 1001 Old Sproul Road. Doors open at 6:30 PM. Movie runtime: 100 minutes.

Angel and the Badman, a classic western with a surprise twist. By the movie’s end, renegade John Wayne has been won over by Quaker Penelope and converted to a peaceful life of farming. This was the first movie produced by John Wayne.

What the New York Times had to say in its review: “Mr. Wayne and company have sacrificed the usual roaring action to fashion a leisurely Western, which is different from and a notch or two superior to the normal sagebrush saga…. [Wayne] has portrayed the change in Quirt Evans, a feared triggerman of the frontier southwest, who, when wounded, is not only nursed to health but subtly won over by Penelope Worth and her Quaker philosophy.”
